Customs seized 298,750 Eramin 5 pills worth
RM5.975 million and arrested a man after a car chase which began in Sepang,
Selangor and ended in Yong Peng, Johor.
Deputy director of Narcotics Branch, Liah
Omar said the man was remanded seven days to facilitate investigation under
Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He said the drama unfolded on Thursday (Dec
13) morning when acting on a tip-off, a customs team trailed a van at KL
International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.
"On realising that he was being
trailed, the van driver tried to lose them by going to Shah Alam before trying
to dump the drugs in an oil palm plantation in Yong Peng.
"However, the attempt failed and the
man was arrested at about 9.30pm. We seized six boxes containing 298,750 Eramin
5 pills worth RM5.975 million in the van," he told a press conference at
Narcotics Branch Headquarters in Kampung Jinjan near here, today.
Liah said customs are investigating to
ascertain whether the drugs seized belonged to the 36 year-old local man
arrested or were to be handed over to other parties.
Initial investigation revealed that the
drugs were delivered via air cargo at KLIA by a supplier from Taiwan to a
recipient in Shah Alam, Selangor.
"Documents revealed that the drugs
were declared as surgical gloves. This is our second largest drugs seizure this
year," he added.
